防御型对外直接投资
防御型对外直接投资跨国公司为避免损失或竞争地位被削弱而进行的国际直接投资。国际投资中的一种策略。防御型投资不是为了获取更高的利润，而是跨国公司对竞争对手的行动或客观经济情况的变化所作出的一种反应。 主要表现包括:当生产过程中国内各种投入成本升高，企业会转向国外低成本的地区投资生产，以取得低成本的收入，消除国内成本升高的不利影响。在拥有大量需求者的市场中，如果作为主要供应者之一的一家跨国公司率先在国外投资生产，该行业的其他公司则会随之进行国外投资，后者的投资在于恢复原有的竞争均势。与此相关的就是被称为“交叉威胁”的投资，它是指如果一家在A国有子公司的跨国公司在B国进行投资，在B国有子公司的跨国公司作为竞争对手为维持原有的均势就会在A国投资。防御型投资一般被认为是非利润型的投资，但在某些情况下，这类投资也可能使跨国公司获得长远的利益。
