Poetic rhythms of New Metrical Poetry are the regular arrangement of time units of the same sound intervals,which comprise several levels: the most basic rhythmical unit is sound caesura and semantic caesura.
新诗格律节奏构成的最基本节奏单元是音顿和意顿;向外发展形成两种建行方式——音顿连续排列建行和意顿对称排列建行;再向外发展就形成构节构篇的形式化节奏体系和口语化节奏体系,其基本构形原则是"句的均齐和节的匀称",由此形成新格律诗体丰富的具体格式。

The 21th century witnesses three approaches to metrical pattern of neo-poetry,one is free poetry theory of no metrical pattern, one is general theory of ancient and contemporary through study of classical poetry and revelation of their common rules, and one is borrowing of western poetry rules.
20世纪对新诗格律问题的探讨,大致有三种方式:一为坚持自由诗理论,即不要格律;一为试图通过对古典诗歌的研究,发现古今共同的规律,建立古今通用的理论;另外就是直接照搬西方诗歌的格律理论。
补充资料：新格律诗派
新月社是1923年由胡适、徐志摩、闻一多、梁实秋、陈源等人创建的文学团体，1926年起徐志摩在《晨报副刊》上创办了《诗镌》、《剧刊》，1927年新月书店在上海成立，1928年3月由徐志摩、罗隆基、胡适、梁实秋等创立了《新月》月刊。
新月社的成立，造就了一批注重现代格律待的新月派诗人，对中国的新文化运动产生了重要的影响。新月派在提倡现代诗歌格律化的同时，强调对诗歌语言词汇的运用，在诗歌创作中体现文学美的意境，因此新月派也称为新格律诗派。
1931年11月徐志摩飞机失事遇难，不久《新月》杂志停刊，新月社解散。
