Discourse Pattern and Thought: Are They Transferable in EFL Writings;

This paper is an exploratory study on English discourse patterns as they are used by Chinese leamers of English.

Enlightenment of the text pattern on the reading teaching;

Although the basic structure and information sequence of text of requests take on some universal features, yet Chinese people and those of English cultures tend to employ different ways to organize information-different text patterns while communicating the requests with the same content owing to different cultural-based think patterns.

With regard to the different thought patterns and cultural backgrounds between China and the west, this article, based on actual teaching practices, discusses how teachers should guide students to overcome the thought and culture barriers and therefore to improve their reading comprehension skills in teaching English reading from three aspects: subject matter, text pattern, and sentence pattern.
