As major burial objects, pre-historical jade cicadas, mainly found from the bottom of urn coffin of the Shijiahe culture in the middle Yangtze River range, are related to funeral ceremony and the concept of soul in the Han dynast.

| 石家河文化 中国长江中游地区的新石器文化。因湖北天门石家河遗址群而得名。主要分布在湖北及豫西南和湘北一带。为承袭屈家岭文化演变而来，年代距今约4600～4000年。该文化出现如石家河遗址群那样的中心聚落，由邓家湾、土城、肖家屋脊等数十处遗址组成。当时的经济生活以稻作农业为主。在邓家湾遗址发现了铜块和炼铜原料孔雀石，标志着冶铜业的出现。琢玉工艺崛起，特色鲜明，玉器有人面雕像、兽面雕像、玉蝉、玉鸟、玦、璜形器等，都属于小型玉器。邓家湾遗址的个别地段，集中出土了大批小型陶塑，有的一座坑中竟达数千件之多。所塑有鸟、鸡、猪、狗、羊、虎、象、猴、龟、鳖以及抱鱼跪坐的人物等。这些陶塑可能供原始巫术、祭祀活动之用，邓家湾似为专门产地，通过交换输往各地。 石家河文化晚期大小墓差别悬殊。肖家屋脊一座大型土坑墓长3米多，随葬品百余件；另一座成人瓮棺中有小型玉器56件，居该文化已发现的玉器墓之首。钟祥六合大多数瓮棺内随葬玉石器及玉石料。这些表明人们以玉器为财富。一般认为，该文化已处于原始社会瓦解阶段。 |
