It has been one of the most important Old Uygur texts which were unearthed in Xinjiang since the 20~(th) century.
回鹘文《玄奘传》约在公元10—11世纪由新疆别失八里人胜光法师译自汉文，它是20世纪以来新疆出土的重要回鹘文文献之一，就其价值而言，可与之相比的只有《金光明经》、《弥勒会见记》等少数几部篇幅较大的回鹘文文献。
