塔索(1544~1595)
Tasso,Torquato
    意大利诗人 。1544年3月11日生于索伦托,1595年4月25日卒于罗马。1561年进入帕多瓦大学攻读古典文化,广泛结识人文主义者。1562年发表骑士传奇长诗《利纳尔多》。1565年任费拉拉城邦埃斯特公爵的宫廷诗人。1573年为宫廷演出而作的牧歌剧《阿明达》,描写牧人阿明达同山林水泽女神的爱情,语言优美,对美、爱情和欢乐的颂扬,体现了人文主义思想。
   1579年问世的长篇叙事诗《被解放的耶路撒冷》是塔索最重要的作品。它以11世纪基督教十字军第一次东征为题材,其中又穿插了多条情节线索。诗人歌颂十字军东征及其对回教徒的胜利,赞美基督教英雄及其信仰的力量,体现了文艺复兴走向衰落时代的特征。长诗问世后,遭到教会的激烈攻讦,塔索被迫向宗教裁判所忏悔,后神经失常,被囚于疯人院达7年之久。塔索还著有《论诗的艺术》、《论英雄史诗》等文艺理论著作。1595年,教皇决定授予塔索桂冠诗人称号,但在举行仪式前夕,诗人已与世长辞。
