宋陈彭年、邱雍等奉敕撰。初,隋陆法言以吕静等六家韵书各有乖互,因与刘臻、颜之推、魏渊、卢思道、李若、萧该、辛德源、薛道衡八人撰为《切韵》五卷。书成于仁寿元年。唐仪凤二年,长孙讷言为之注。后郭知玄、关亮、薛峋、王仁煦、祝尚邱递有增加。天宝十载,陈州司法孙愐重为刊定,改名《唐韵》。后严宝文、裴务齐、陈道固又各有添字。宋景德四年,以旧本偏旁差讹,传写漏落,又注解未备,乃命重修。大中祥符四年书成,赐名《大宋重修广韵》,即是书也。旧本不题撰人。以丁度《集韵》考之,知为彭年、雍等尔。其书二百六韵,仍陆氏之旧,所收凡二万六千一百九十四字。考唐《封演闻见记》,载陆法言《韵》凡一万二千一百五十八字,则所增凡一万四千三十六字矣。此本为苏州张士俊从宋椠翻雕,中间已缺钦宗讳,盖建炎以后重刊。朱彝尊序之,力斥刘渊《韵》合《殷》于《文》、合《隐》于《吻》、合《焮》于《问》之非。然此本实合《殷》、《隐》、《焮》于《文》、《吻》、《问》,彝尊未及检也。注文凡一十九万一千六百九十二字,较旧本为详,而冗漫颇甚。如“公”字之下载姓氏至千馀言,殊乏翦裁。“东”字之下称东宫得臣为齐大夫,亦多纰缪。考孙愐《唐韵序》,称异闻、奇怪、传说、姓氏、原田、土地、物产、山河、草木、禽兽、虫鱼备载其间,已极蔓引。彭年等又从而益之,宜为丁度之所议。潘耒《序》乃以注文繁复为可贵,是将以韵书为类书也。着书各有体例,岂可以便于剽剟,遂推为善本哉?流传既久,存以备韵书之源流可矣。
