This paper focuses its analysis on the four aspects of meaning of an English word,namely,the denotative meaning showing the relation between meaning and things,the grammatical meaning showing the relation between mean- ing and grammar,the connotative meaning showing the relation between meaning and people and the translational meaning between words of different languages.

This essay studies the idioms with figures between Russian and Chinese,according to the grammatical category,rhetorical devices and ways of expression,explores the connotative meaning,denotative meaning,as well as the corresponding relationship of Russian and Chinese cultures.

These schemata showing the spatial relations are mapped into other cognitive domains and produce various meaning extensions of the preposition "to".
