什么是家庭智育？是家长或有关人员对受教育者进行的智能教育活动。
家庭智育对孩子的成长以及社会主义物质文明和精神文明的建设具有重要作用。
它可分为学前家庭智育和入学后家庭智育。学前家庭智育是孩子入学学习和成才的基础。
入学后家庭智育和学校智育是一致的，它是学校智育的补充。
其主要任务有三个方面：
（１）积极配合学校智育，有计划地进行学校课程的家庭辅导。
（２）尽可能从多方面促进孩子的智力发展。智力不等于知识。分数高也不等于智力高。不要让孩子总盯着好分数而忽视真才实学的锻炼。“智”和“知”不能划等号，智力的内涵很广，它包括观察能力、记忆能力、表达能力、想象能力，特别是创造性思维能力，而知识指的是各门学问。
（３）促使孩子在德、智、体、美、劳诸方面协调一致的发展。家庭智育的目标应是培养社会主义事业的有用人才，为完成国家建设需要快出人才、早出人才、多出人才、出高级人才的紧迫任务服务。
