山西省阳高县第一中学校成立于1952年，1985年被列为山西省首批重点中学之一。学校现为六轨制高级中学，共有21个教学班（含3个补习班）。在校学生1500多名，现有教职工142名，其中各类专业技术人员共114名，有中学高级教师12名，中学一级教师44名。
学校占地面积56000平方米，建筑面积14000平方米。学校现有建筑面积为4000平方米的教学大楼一幢，建筑面积为3000平方米的办公实验楼一幢。
2000年底，建筑面积为4000平方米的学生宿舍楼正式竣工，800多名住校生喜迁新居。学校拥有较先进的微机室、语音室、放映厅，还有设施、器材较为完善的理、化、生实验室，有藏书两万余册的图书室。近几年，班班实现了“两机一幕”进教室。
学校教育教学质量稳步提高。近几年高考，1999年大专以上达线人数为233人，比1998年提高了95.8%，2000年大专以上达线人数为234人，升学率在全市七县区仍排名第一。2001年大专以上达线448人，升学率仍排在七县区之首。并且近几年，每年都有达清华北大分数线的学生。2001年，武海生同学以672分的优异成绩被清华大学录取。学校还积极开展单元测试、学科竞赛、讲座等教学活动；开展年级篮球、足球赛、校园歌手选拔赛、各种主题演讲赛，“五·四”歌咏赛、迎新年联欢会、队列队形、广播操比赛等丰富多彩的文体活动。学校先后获得了“大同市文明单位”、“山西省文明学校”、“市先进基层党组织”、“大同市高中教学成绩优秀”、“红旗单位”、“高考成绩显著”、“现代化教育技术实验学校”、“社会治安综合治理先进集体”、“普通高中新课程方案试验先进学校”等多项荣誉
