［一、法说周］，法说周者，佛为上根之人，作三乘一乘说；开三乘之权，显一乘之实。即方便品中所谈是也。（三乘者，声闻乘、缘觉乘、菩萨乘也。）
［二、譬喻周］，譬喻周者，佛为中根之人，于上法说周中不悟，更作三车一车说。初许三车，是施权；后等赐大车，是显实。即譬喻品中所谈是也。（三车者，羊车、鹿车、牛车也。）
［三、宿世因缘周］，宿世因缘周者，佛为下根之人，于上法、譬二周之中，不能解了，遂说宿世，曾于大通智胜佛时，同下一乘之种，令其得悟。即化城喻品中所谈是也。
