1940年越南谅山省北山州人民反抗法、日帝国主义的武装起义。1940年 9月22日，日军从中国广西入侵越南，占领同登后，进攻谅山。各州府的殖民政权纷纷瓦解,官吏弃职逃跑,驻守谅山的法军经北山败走太原。当地人民群众自动组织起来逮捕知州、知府，收缴法国残兵的武器。9月27日印度支那共产党北山地方党组织决定举行起义，提出"反对法、日帝国主义"的口号，当天晚上，起义军攻下了北山州城的法军据点。此后，起义军多次伏击法军，均取得胜利。不久，法、日互相勾结，法军回兵镇压起义军,重建殖民政权。10月中旬,印度支那共产党北圻委员会派陈登宁前来北山，直接领导起义。10月25日，起义军攻占伪军集结地点北山学校。而后再次攻打漠崖据点。起义军两次出兵失利。10月28日，指导委员会在武棱召开群众大会，参加者逾千人。敌人获得情报后派军队包围。为了保存力量，起义军及时撤入丛林，成立游击队，继续坚持斗争。敌人烧毁房屋，合并村落，捕杀干部，监禁革命战士的家属，实行白色恐怖。
历时一个月的北山起义虽然失败了，但在起义中成立了北山游击队，它是印度支那共产党领导下的第一支武装力量。后来逐步发展成为越南救国军，并建立武崖－北山根据地。
