性质:又名1,5,6,7-四羟基-2-甲基蒽醌。为存在于Coprosma areolata  树皮中的色素。可用丙酮从该树皮中萃取出来。暗红色结晶。分解点298℃以上。易溶于吡啶、丙酮、二噁烷。不溶于水。在浓硫酸中呈红紫色,在氢氧化钠溶液中呈红棕色。遇氨水呈蓝绿色。用作染料中间体。其衍生物有:四醋酸酯:黄色针状结晶(由醋酸重结晶),熔点238℃;四甲基醚:黄色针状结晶(由醋酸重结晶),熔点175℃。
