红外线为不可见光线，又称“热射线”。在太阳光谱中，红外线波长为0.76～400μm，分近红外线(即短波红外线，波长0.76～1.5μm，穿入人体组织较深）及远红外线(即长波红外线，波长1.5～400μm，多被表层皮肤吸收）。红外线疗法是应用红外线(波长为0.76～400μm的辐射线）来治疗疾病，红外线主要治疗作用是消炎作用；镇痛解痉作用。
