性质:又称衔接物,连接RNA,接合体。在化学工业中指接管(头)、应接器、平衡试验机用轮辋、适配器、接合器、转接器、匹配器等。在生命科学中指起衔接作用的一类生物活性分子。如1958年克里克(Crick)提出在蛋白质生物合成过程中的连接物假说(adapter hypothesis)中就明确转移核糖核酸(transfer RNA, tRNA)分子是连接氨基酸并转移之的连接物。换言之,tRNA能与相应氨基酸相结合后再转移至核蛋白体(ribosomal RNA,rRNA),继而结合到附着在rRNA上的信使核糖核酸(mRNA)的氨基酸密码子上。在蛋白质合成中tRNA始终起着连接和转移氨基酸的作用,所以把tRNA类分子称作连接物或衔接物。
