又名生育酚。分子式C29H50O2，一种脂溶性维生素。自然界存在的有维生素E作用的物质有八种。一般所指维生素E是α-生育酚。药用的主要是乙酸酯广泛存在于绿色植物中，在小麦胚芽油中含量最高。浅黄色粘稠油状液体。无臭无味。密度（25/4℃）0.95g/cm3。不溶于水，易溶于乙醇、乙醚、丙酮、氯仿和油脂。对热和碱稳定。久置空气中缓慢氧化，遇铁盐、银盐则氧化较快，受紫外线照射即失效。本品对生殖功能、肌肉代谢均有影响，具有抗氧化作用等性质。可由三甲基氢醌与叶绿醇等缩合而成。
