In addition to the low resistivity, super anti-corrosion, IrO_2 thin films possess some other interesting properties, such as excellent diffusion barrier properties preventing the diffusion of elements (O, Zr, Pb, Ti) at high temperature and attractive electrochemical properties.

Microstructures of highly compact IrO_2 films,deposited on Si(100) substrates by pulsed laser Deposition of Ir target at different oxygen partial pressures,were characterized with X-ray diffraction(XRD),Raman spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM).
