性质:即细胞周期。连续分裂着的细胞,从上次分裂到下次分裂所经历的过程。一般分四期:(1)G1期(第一个生长期),蛋白质和RNA合成旺盛,细胞体积明显增大;(2)S期(DNA合成期),完成染色体的复制,形成两个染色单体;(3)G2期(DNA合成后期),继续进行RNA和蛋白质合成,并构成细胞的第二个生长期;(4)M期(有丝分裂期),可细分为前期、中期、后期和末期。在此期中,细胞完成核和质的分裂,产生新的子细胞。上述(1)~(3)期合在一起称为间期。各种细胞的生长周期长短不同,一般在10h以上。有时生长周期也用作微生物生长曲线的同义词。
