释澄楚。姓宗氏。不知何许人也。爰祖暨考。偕贲丘园高蹈不仕。母赵氏妊楚也。忽畏膻臊之臭。及乎诞生之夕。光烂充室邻落咸惊。洎当七岁亲党携之入寺。见佛像辄嗟叹而作礼。归家问父曰。唯佛独尔余者如何。父曰。蠢动皆佛何况人矣。楚曰。儿愿学佛聊报二亲劬劳。其父默而许旃。至十岁于相国寺礼智明为师。未几有童子聚戏而招诱之。楚曰汝何愚騃好嬉戏耶。且雪山善财亦童子。还如是否。旁有闻者奇之曰。子异日成法门伟器必矣。受具已来习新章律部。独能辄入毗奈耶窟穴。然其击难酬答露牙伸爪。时号律虎焉。王公大人请益者日且众矣。晋高祖闻而钦仰。诏入内道场赐紫袈裟。寻署大师号真法焉。自此皇宫妃主有慕法者求出家。命楚落发度戒。表里冰霜更无他物。命为新章律宗主焉。以显德六年十月十一日无疾而终。首北面西示佛涅槃相也。俗龄七十一。僧夏五十。始末临坛度僧尼八千余人。门人慧照等。依西域法焚之。得碎身分构砖塔缄藏之。左街首座悟皎作舍利塔记焉。
  [赞宁]系曰。楚师明律时号宗主者何。通曰。律有三宗。砺素宣是欤。宗各有主故云也。观夫是名也岂无稽古乎。通曰。宗主二字出阿含经也。。
