能产生高准确度和高稳定度标准频率信号（如 5兆赫、10兆赫正弦信号）的振荡器及其附属电路。它用作时间统一系统的守时设备，为某些测量设备提供标准频率信号。表征频率标准源性能的主要指标有频率准确度、频率稳定度和频率漂移率。频率准确度是频率标准源输出频率的实际值与标称值的相对偏差。频率稳定度表示频率标准源输出频率因受随机噪声影响产生的随机起伏特性。由于采样时间不同，频率稳定度的值也往往不一样。习惯上将采样时间小于秒量级的频率稳定度称为短期频率稳定度，而采样时间为秒量级以上的频率稳定度称为长期频率稳定度，其频率漂移率是指受元、器件老化影响后它的输出频率随时间的线性变化关系。随时间单位的不同有日漂移率、月漂移率和年漂移率。航空航天工程中的时间统一设备常用高稳定恒温晶体振荡器和各种原子频标作为频率标准源，使所获取、纪录的数据和事件具有严格统一的时间标准。
