The fatigue behavior of steel structures in service is obtained by tests,and the fatigue crack propagation life of riveted steel members is investigated by the application of the fracture mechanics principles.

Based on linear fatigue-damage accumulation theory and fracture mechanics,the deterministic assessment approach was proposed,in which the fatigue failure behavior of riveted steel bridges was reflected.

According to the fatigue failure mechanism of riveted steel bridges,a double-angle probabilistic fracture failure model(DAPFFM) of riveted bridge members and a system fatigue reliability model were proposed based on the whole riveted member fracture mechanics models.

The stress in older riveted bridge is lower.
