京剧演员，工花旦，擅演泼辣旦，工尤佳。原名桂森,字绍卿。原籍山东登州。7岁入郭际湘（水仙花）主持的鸣盛和科班，从梆子旦脚演员千日红学艺，艺名小牡丹花。鸣盛和科班停办后，转入富连成科班，从萧长华、郭春山学戏，另取艺名筱翠花。出科后搭入斌庆社科班演戏，先后与尚小云、杨小楼、余叔岩合作演出，后又自己挑班。曾拜田桂凤为师，同时向路三宝、侯俊山、余玉琴、郭际湘、王瑶卿学艺。他所演刺杀旦一类剧目，继承了路三宝的艺术风格，兼融诸家之长而有所发展，自成一派。于连泉功底深，戏路宽，善于运用眼神，做功身段刻意求工，神态举止俱有法度。中年时嗓音变为沙中带哑,但念白仍能送远响堂,饶有韵味。擅演《花田错》、《鸿鸾禧》、《坐楼杀惜》、《战宛城》、《阴阳河》、《红梅阁》、《挑帘裁衣》、《打樱桃》、《荷珠配》、《一匹布》、《小放牛》等。他丰富了"蹉步"、"赶步"、"云步"、"倒步"、"碎步"等花旦步法，废后又创造了"步"。《红梅阁·阴配》一折中的"魂步"即各种"步"的组合,飘洒轻盈,婀娜多姿。弟子有毛世来、陈永玲等。曾为北京市戏曲研究所研究员，并在中国戏曲学校任教。著有《京剧花旦表演艺术》一书。
