在尼日利亚的泊朗湖里，有一种吃食不用嘴的鱼，叫“万齿鱼”，当地人称它为“立勒其罗尼”。万齿鱼并无“万齿”，且这齿也不是长在嘴巴里。这种鱼头尖、身扁，躯体相当于头部的70—80倍。它的外皮上生满了一排排白色的椭圆点，看上去像牙齿。椭圆点上长满了钢针似的透明针鳃，好像刺猬身上的针刺一样。针鳃上生着许多细小的吸孔，这便是它的吸食器官。当然，“万齿鱼”也有嘴，但它小得像眼珠子，吃食很不方便。因此，当它要吃食时，就用针鳃把游近它身旁的小鱼扎住，然后再用针鳃把小鱼揉烂，通过吸管吸入肠胃。
