美国现代舞演员、编导和教师。1906年生于印第安纳波利斯,1953年11月2日卒于洛杉矶。早年曾学习芭蕾。日本歌舞伎艺术和印第安人的舞蹈对他也有影响。1934年建立自己的舞蹈团，吸引了不同种族的演员。1944年因伤退出舞台，但仍继续从事创作编导。1948年，他在洛杉矶建立了美国第一个完全用于舞蹈演出的私人剧场。作为舞蹈教师，他培养了许多现代舞人才，其中包括A.艾利等人。
