电子干扰飞机是专门对敌方防空体系内的警戒引导雷达、目标指示雷达、制导雷达和陆空指挥通信设备实施电子干扰,掩护己方航空兵突袭的飞机。ea—6b是在ea—6a的基础上发展而来的电子干扰飞机,是一种主要对抗飞机的机种,用于施放有源干扰,掩护攻击飞机等作用。

该机有4名飞行员,其中1名是驾驶员,后舱2名军官负责操干扰系统,前舱右侧1名电子战军官负责通信、导航、自卫性电子干扰。

在空袭伊的战斗中,ea—6b使用新型干扰器发出全方位迷盲信号,为攻击飞机打开了通道。
