非言语交际(non一verbal eommunieation)不用语言文字而用手势、身体姿势、空间距离、目光接触、面部表情以及所谓“副语言”或“信物”来传达信息、表达思想感情的人际交往行为。非言语交际的形式是多种多样的，归纳起来可分成三类:(l)动态无声行为。如点头或摇头，招手或摇手，扬眉或皱眉，凝视或避开目光，昂首或俯首，馅笑或不屑一顾，等等。(2)静态无声行为。如沉默，不作任何表示，这本身也反映出一种态度。某些“信物”，如“草标”有不同打法，可以表示不同的意思。有些草标表示某人已经过了此地而走在前面，示意走在后面的人要加快步伐迎头赶_L;无标则意味着此人尚未到此，可在此休息等待。有些草标表示此地己播种。有些草标表示这些野树虽未砍完但别人不得在此砍柴:无标则意味着这些己砍或未砍的柴，别人可以拾走。(3)伴随语言出现的含有言外之意的所谓“副语言”。同样的句话，因为语调、重音、节奏的不同，所表达的意思也有差异甚至完全相反，可能是赞赏或是讽刺。这些表达言外之意的语调、重音、节奏，被称为“副语言”。不同民族之间在彼此语言不通时，主要以非言语方式进行交际活动。彼此言语基本相通时，非言语交际一也往科仍是交际的辅助手段。同一民族内部也有非言语交际，如空间距离常用来表示双方的亲密程度。关系密切，两人靠得近些;关系一般，则保持一定距离。不同民族的人接触时，空间即离也有差异。除了上述五类非言语交际形式以外，还有所谓“音乐语一言”、“舞蹈语言”、“雕塑语言”、数学符号等，也被人认为是特殊的专门化了的非言语交际形式。所有这些非言语交际形式，都是人们表达和交流思想情感的心理反应方式。 (胡礼遇撰张世畜审)
