      1956年建于上海,1982年有科技人员426人。建院之初为纺织工业部纺织科学研究院上海分院,1959年划归上海市领导,独立建院,改名为上海市纺织科学研究院,仍继续承担全国性科研任务。科研业务范围不断扩大,逐步形成棉、毛、麻、丝和化学纤维纺织、印染、针织、无纺织布、纤维材料等专业的综合性纺织科研机构。到1983年,院内设有纺纱、织造、染整、针织、无纺织布、工业用品、电气自动化、纤维材料、技术情报、理化分析10个研究室和环境保护研究组,附设棉纺实验工场、机械制造工厂和新材料车间。主要科研内容是:纺织工艺基础理论;纺织新产品,无纺织布和工业用品;传统纺织染整工艺技术和设备改造;纺织新技术、新工艺和新设备;纤维材料理化性能、测试技术和测试仪器;环境保护、节能技术;科技情报和技术经济研究。
