学校体育部是学校重点课程单位，担负着对全体学生进行高等体育教育的重任，承担着全校学生的体育课教学以及课外群众体育活动和高水平运动队的训练竞赛及管理工作。是学校实行完全学分制改革的试点单位之一。
学校现有男女篮球、田径、网球、武术、乒乓球等多支体育运动队。高水平运动员100余人。体育部下设办公室、第一教研室、第二教研室、第三教研室、科研室、群体室、竞训室，在岗教师78人，其中正副教授31人，硕士研究生及在读硕士14人。
体育课程设置：
必修课：依据学校培养任务和体育课程的任务设定，体育部规定学生在校期间必须修满4个学期共计132学时的体育课程，学分为8学分。修满规定学分、达到基本要求（基本任务）是学生毕业、获得学位的必要条件之一。
选修课：三年级以上学生（包括研究生）开设1学期体育选修课程，学分为1.5学分。
体育科研成果：
科报会：入选国际体育科学大会12篇，入选全国体育科学大会和全国大运会科学大会10篇，入选其他各级各类科学报告会39篇。
论文发表：权威期刊8篇，核心期刊45篇，正式期刊126篇。
科研课题：先后承担和完成国家级课题2项，省部级课题6项，校级课题7项。
教材出版：主编教材2部，参编教材4部。
