上海交通大学制冷与低温工程学科是一个具有硕士和博士学位授予权的二级学科，于1956年创建，是我国高校中历史最悠久的制冷学科之一。1962年即开始招收研究生，1981年获得硕士学位授予权、1986年获得博士学位授予权。现有教授14人、研究员3人、副教授4人、高级工程师1人、讲师3人、工程师1人和工程技术人员4人。 在师资队伍中35周岁以下的青年教师占了一半以上。该学科紧跟市场发展需要，以家电、能源与环境等重要支柱产业为发展先导，积极与国内外企业合作，在人材培养、研究开发和基地建设方面发奋努力，取得了一系列成果，使其总体水平处于国内领先，部分处于国际先进。
