一根细金属管上部封闭,把它做成一喇叭口,口上蒙一橡胶薄膜(或金属薄膜),另一端开口。当上端处于室温,下端接近低温液体时,由于低温气体不断进入开口的管子向上运动到热端,受热膨胀而形成纵向的振荡称之为热声振荡,在开口端经过低温液体时,可在喇叭口的振荡膜上感受到振荡有一个突变,用它可以测得液氢或液氦的液面高度。
