装在飞机上用于识别雷达所发现目标的敌我属性的电子设备。包括应答机和问答机两种类型。它与装备在己方其他飞机、舰艇、坦克和雷达站的询问机或问答机，组成合作式的目标敌我识别系统。应答机是被动式的敌我识别装置，在收到己方询问信号时，能自动回答一组编码信号,以供问方识别。问答机除具有应答功能外,还能主动向被识别的目标发出询问信号，并根据对方有无回答信号，或回答信号是否与预定密码相同，判断其敌我属性。有的飞机敌我识别器除用于目标识别外，还能传送载机的其他信息，兼作空中交通管制系统的二次雷达使用。此识别器的发展趋势，主要是扩大识别目标的信息范围，研制综合性的目标识别系统，采用非合作式的目标识别体制（如利用目标电磁特征直接识别敌我），提高识别目标的可靠性、保密性和抗干扰性能等。
