《多式联运单证规则》的全称，是1991年由联合国贸易和发展会议与国际商会在《联合运输单证统一规则》的基础上，参考《联合国国际货物多式联运公约》共同制定的，是一项国际规则，供当事人自愿采纳。规则共13条。主要内容有：（1）本规则经当事人选择后适用，一经适用就超越当事人订立的条款，除非这些条款增加多式联运经营人的义务。（2）对一些名词做了定义。（3）多式联运单证是多式联运经营人接管货物的初步证据，多式联运经营人不得以相反的证据对抗善意的单据持有人。（4）多式联运经营人责任期间自接管货物时起到交付货物时止。多式联运经营人为其受雇人、代理人和其他人的作为或不作为承担一切责任。（5）多式联运经营人的赔偿责任基础是完全责任制，并且对延迟交付应当承担责任。（6）多式联运经营人的责任限制为每件或每单位666.67特别提款权，或者毛重每公斤2特别提款权.（7）如果货物的损坏或灭失的原因是多式联运经营人的作为或不作为造成的，则不得享受责任限制。（8）如果货物的损坏或者灭失是由托运人的原因造成的，则多式联运经营人应先向单据的善意持有人负责，而后向托运人追偿。（9）货物损坏明显，则收货人立即向多式联运经营人索赔，如不明显，则在6日内索赔。（10）诉讼时效为9个月。（11）规则对无论是侵权还是违约均有效。（12）本规则适用于所有多式联运关系人。
