【制法】
取水牛角，洗净，锯断，除去角塞，劈成小块。选取尖部实芯部分（习 称“角尖”），用75％乙醇浸泡或蒸气消毒后，粉碎成细粉。其余部分（习称“角桩” ）打成粗颗粒或镑成薄片。取角桩粗颗粒或镑片810g，加10倍量水煎煮二次，每次7～ 10小时，煎煮过程中随时补充蒸去的水分，合并煎液，滤过，滤液浓缩至80～160ml， 加入上述角尖细粉190g，混匀，在80℃以下干燥后，粉碎成细粉，过筛，即得。
【性状】
本品为淡灰色粉末；气微腥，味微咸。
【检查】
水分 照水分测定法（附录Ⅸ H 第一法）测定，不得过11.0％。
【含量测定】
取本品约0.18g，精密称定，照氮测定法(附录Ⅸ L 第一法）测定。 本品按干燥品计算，含氮量不得少于15.0％。
