The sulfide in the garlic essential oil has distinct effects of pharmacology such as tumour-counteracting, vein-protecting, blood sugar-reducing and so on in which diallyl disulfide(DADs), diallyl trisulfide(DATs) are the primary components.

A number of pharmacologically and biologically active diallyl mono and polysulfides, the components of garlic extract, including diallyl sulfide(DS), diallyl disulfide(DDS), diallyl trisulfide(DTS) and diallyl tetrasulfide(DTTS) , were chemically synthesized for further study as new drug using commercially available reagents glycerol and methanoic acid as starting materials.
