描述TrichodesmaR.Br.毛束草属，紫草科，35种，分布于东半球热带地区，其中毛束草T.calycosumColl.etHemsl.和喀西毛束草T.khasianumClarke2种，我国西南部和台湾省亦产之。一年生草本；叶对生，全缘，上部的互生；花5数，腋生，但因叶的退化而成顶生的总状花序；萼深裂，裂片于结果时扩大；花冠管圆柱状钟形，裂片5，旋扭状；雄蕊5，着生于冠管上，花丝短，花药粘合，药隔顶端突起呈钻形，顶旋扭；子房4室；果为4个小坚果所成；种子近球形或倒卵形。
