【药材】
幼苗时，根呈块状，簇生。卵圆形，肉质，表面黄褐色，平滑；老时伸延呈圆锥形而细长，侧生支根。纤细，干后现皱缩的纵条纹。 产江苏、河南。
【性味】
《河南中草药手册》："苦，寒，有小毒。"
【功用主治】
清热凉血，消肿解毒。治扁桃腺炎，妇女血崩，疖肿，乳痈。 ①《南京民间药草》："治妇女血崩及子宫发炎；另用猪膀胱作引子。" ②《河南中草药手册》："清热解毒，消炎，凉血，散瘀。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，0.5～1两。外用：捣敷。
【选方】
①治扁桃腺炎：山莴苣一两。水煎，分二次服。 ②治疮疖肿毒及无名肿毒，乳痈：鲜山莴苣适量，捣烂如泥，敷患处。 ③治子宫颈炎：山莴苣一两，猪膀胱一个。水煎，分三次服。(选方出《河南中草药手册》)
