| 蛇尾纲 Ophiuroidea 棘皮动物门的一纲。因腕的外观和运动似蛇尾而得名。包括220个属2000个种。中国已知约180个种。有不少化石。体盘和腕分界明显，体盘直径一般为1厘米，很少超过2厘米。腕细长，常为盘直径的5～10倍，最长可达30倍。腕多是5个，内脏不伸入腕内（见图）。腕内部骨骼呈椎骨状，椎骨彼此靠关节相连，能作垂直上下运动，缠绕他物和作水平的屈曲。真蛇尾的盘和腕上盖有小板或鳞片，盘上各腕基部有1对发达的辐楯，口在腹面中央，周围各间辐部有1大形口楯。雌雄异体，少数雌雄异态，个别种有矮雄现象。 蛇尾类分布在世界各海洋，种类最多的是印度-西太平洋区。从潮间带到水深6000米的深海均有。营底上或底内生活。栖息的底质多样，少数攀缘，有的与海绵共生。有些蛇尾在海底常集成大群。蛇尾类有些种是底栖鱼类的重要饵料。本纲分4目：始蛇尾目、开沟蛇尾目、蜍蛇尾目和真蛇尾目。
