| 希腊语 Greek language 印欧语系中一种独立的语言。主要分布在希腊，使用人口700多万。在其他地区也有数量不等的使用者。全世界现今使用人口总计1000万左右。希腊语是印欧语系中最早有文字记录的语言之一。在近代希腊语里，古代的乐调重音变成送气重音，元音的长短音区别已经消失。语法结构中已失去了双数、愿望语气和过去叙述时。近代希腊语从邻近民族或统治民族那里接受了大量借词，而书面语还保留着许多古希腊语词。由于古希腊哲学、科学、逻辑学、数学的发达，其创造的大量词语仍沿用至今。现代很多新学科也借用希腊词语并根据希腊语构词规则创造新词来表达新概念。
