金属的杜瓦容器、低温的液化器、贮槽以及槽车等用来观察内部液面高度的装置为液面计。盛有密度为ρ、高度为h的液体的容器底部的压强等于液体表面的压强P0加上液体的静压强ρgh,将此表面和底部的压强分别用毛细管引出到另一盛常温液体的指示容器的两端,在这压力差的作用下指示容器的液面出现一高度差,通过校正即可指示出低温容器中的液面高度。
