UGA codon is a stop signal codon normally in the process of protein synthesized but a Sec codon when there is a selenocysteine insertion sequence(SECIS) in the 3 -untranslater region of mRNA sequence.

In this paper, we introduce the structural characteres of the selenocysteine insertion sequences (SECIS), the bioinformatics methods of searching selenoprotein from genome and its research progress.
