性质:又称垂体。最主要的内分泌腺。人的脑垂体大如樱桃,椭圆形,以小柄悬系于脑的下方,位于颅中窝的垂体窝内。根据胚胎发育和生理功能,脑垂体可分为前叶和后叶两部分。前叶较大,能分泌多种激素,对于生长发育,尤其是对骨骼的生长,以及对新陈代谢和性的功能等均有调节作用,并能影响其他分分泌腺的活动。幼年时期为前叶功能亢进,可引起身体过分增长,开成“巨人症”,如功能减退,则妨碍身体发育,形成身材异常矮小的侏儒症。后叶较小,其内的激素,是由丘脑下部的视上核和室旁核的神经细胞所分泌,神经分泌的颗粒沿轴突下行进入后叶,这些激素有升血压、刺激子宫收缩和抗利尿等作用。
