在有限温度下处于混合态的硬超导体，虽然还未到达临界态，但由于热激活能量促使了磁通线脱离原钉扎中心而跳跃到另一钉扎中心，由此引起磁通线的缓慢流动称磁通蠕动。安德森和基姆（Anderson-Kim）还假设磁通蠕动是成束的磁通线跳跃到邻近钉扎中心形成的一种运动。蠕动的速度与激活能和温度等因素有关，虽然速度缓慢，但若在电流产生的驱动力作用下横过载流导体蠕动时，将出现一个纵向电阻性电压，它与平均蠕动速度成正比。
