The main methods to acquire data of ethnographic research include participant observation and non-structure interview,and it follows induction logic,persists the principle that researchers should not conjecture or influence natural phenomenon,and all these contribute the validity of ethnographic research.
人种学研究收集数据的主要手段是参与式观察和非结构性访谈,遵循的是归纳逻辑,坚持研究者对所研究的现象不推测、不干涉的原则,保证了研究现象的原初状态;同时,人种学研究强调研究者的在场和参与,这种田野研究也保证了研究结果更符合生活世界的真相。

非参与观察:也称局外观察,就是观察者不加入被观察者的群体,不参与他们的活动,完全以局外人或旁观者的身份进行观察.这种方法的突出特点就是要使被观察者意识不到他们正在被观察,保证他们在极其自然的,不受观察者任何干扰的环境中行动,以避免被观察者感到不自在而影响到观察结果的真实性和准确性.一般来说,非参与观察比较客观,公允,但不够深入,看到的多是一些表面的,甚至偶然的社会现象,所获得的也多是感性知识.它比较适用于对某些公共场所或某些公众活动中人们行为和表现的观察.
