只要是手动档的汽车，在行驶中就有可能遇到离合器失灵的情况，造成不能换档尤其是不能从空档加入到一档起步。遇到这种突发情况时，如果条件允许，最好是由施救车辆来处理。
如特殊情况不可能有施救车辆时，如在相当偏僻或偏远的地方，那就一定要自己开车去修理厂了。
现说说此种情况下如何自救：首先将档位在熄火的情况下先加入到三档，然后在确定前方有足够的完全距离的前提下，点火，用起动马达的动力将车强行点着，此时车子会有一此较大的跳动，不能踩刹车，此时要赶紧配合上油门，让车跑起来，并根据发动机的转速来进行加减档位，即在起动后，加油到感觉发动机的转速高的时候，直接快速的把档位推高一级，同样的，在车速慢下时，迅速地直接推进低一档（在减档时，如动作熟练的话，可在脱档的瞬间点一下空油，让变速齿轮和发动机的齿轮速比匹配）。不过最好是利用起动进的三档慢慢地将车开走。如遇到突发状况要踩刹车的时候，尽量不要一脚踩死，那样的话又车辆又会熄火了。又要重新起动。
