用优质桑蚕丝经过脱胶的熟丝以平纹组织织成的绢类丝织物。名称来源于英文taffeta一词,含有平纹丝织物之意。经线用两根有色有拈熟丝并拈而成，纬线用三根有色有拈熟丝并拈而成，经纬丝密度较高且经密大于纬密，织物重约58克/米2。绸面紧密细洁,平挺光滑,不易沾尘污，常用作外衣、羽绒被套料和高级伞绸等。缺点是折叠重压后会产生折痕。除传统的桑蚕丝塔夫绸外，还可采用双宫丝、 绢丝、 人造丝、尼龙丝等作为原料，织制各种仿真丝塔夫绸，也可以用丝和棉交织。花式品种有素色、闪色、条格和提花等。
