植物形态：一年生草本，高达70厘米。茎直立，有分枝，近秃净或疏生短毛，每一叶腋内有刺1~2枚。叶互生，狭卵状披针形或长椭圆形，长4~10厘米，宽1.5~4厘米，基部楔形，先端钝，全缘，绿色，秃净，叶柄长1~8厘米，基部有1~2个针芒状刺。花绿色，单性，腋生球形花束或延长腋生或顶生的穗状花序，萼5裂，膜质，花瓣缺，子房上位，1室。胞果盖裂。 生态分布：产我国长江以南至南部各省；多生于路旁、草地、空旷荒地上。 药用部分：5~9月采全草或根、叶、茎入药。 用途：性味甘、微苦、凉。能清热解毒，凉血，除湿，消肿。主治急性痢疾，腹泻、溶血型毒蛇咬伤，痔疮出血，癣等。用量：全草1~2两。外用适量。孕妇忌用。
