      藏北羌塘高原北部内陆湖泊, 咸水湖。 位于北纬35°43′,东经86°,可可西里山西段的玉尔巴杂钦山南麓。是处于东西走向山地围隔的狭长断陷盆地内的构造湖。湖面海拔4870米,面积 52平方公里。湖水 pH值9.2,矿化度23.0克/升,总硬度94.2毫克当量/升,化学类型属硫酸钠亚型。湖滨有10多条呈同心圆状的砂砾堤,最高11.7米。湖东侧有第四纪火山活动遗迹,主要为由辉石英安岩与粗面安山岩组成的方山与残留火山锥,相对高度300米左右,在熔岩被下除古生代浅变质黄色砂岩层外,尚见有第三纪含石膏的红层。湖区气候寒冷干燥,暖季日最低气温都在0℃以下,1976年8月10日在湖东岸海拔4881米处测得日最低气温为-18℃。植被稀疏、种类贫乏,以青藏苔草占优势,并有旱生的垫状驼绒藜与半灌木群落出现,呈现高寒荒漠草原景观。这一地区的高山荒漠草原土壤更趋贫瘠与粗骨性,有机质含量低于 1%,碳酸钙略显表聚特征,且因冻融滚裹作用,使心土层形成特殊的鲕状结构体。此外,土表有脆薄易碎的疏孔状结壳,具漠境土的雏形特征。
