| 硼砂 borax 含水硼酸盐矿物。成分为Na2（H2O）8〔B4O5（OH）4〕。单斜晶系，晶体常呈板状或短柱状，柱面有纵纹；集合体有晶簇状、粒状、多孔土块状、皮壳状等。白色或微带浅灰、浅黄、浅蓝、浅绿等色，玻璃光泽，板面解理完全，莫氏硬度2～2.5，比重1.69～1.72 。易溶于水，略具甜味。烧灼时膨胀、脱水，熔成透明的玻璃球状体。是最常见的硼酸盐矿物之一，主要是含硼盐湖蒸发干涸的产物。也呈霜华状见于干旱地区的土壤表面。在干燥空气中易失去部分结晶水变成白色粉末状的三方硼砂。中国西藏拉萨附近的盐湖沉积矿床是世界著名的硼砂产地之一。其他著名产地有土耳其、阿根廷、玻利维亚、智利、美国。是最重要的工业硼矿物。除提取硼及其化合物外，在玻璃工业中用于制造光学玻璃和抗热玻璃，或做助熔剂。在陶瓷工业中，用作制造瓷釉和珐琅的配料。也用于生产洗洁粉、软水剂、药皂、洗眼水。还可用作食品的保鲜防腐剂、焊接用的金属表面去污剂、冶金和各种试验的助熔剂等。
