 (传说)据经论所说,释尊出世,人寿百岁之时也。智度论四曰:“人寿百岁,佛出时到。”弥勒上生经疏上曰:“释迦减劫百岁出世,弥勒增劫出世。”然佛寿有二说:一人寿百岁之时,则佛寿亦百岁。为以其福分与未来之弟子,减寿之第五分(五分百岁也),八十入灭。二人寿百岁,而佛过于众人,其寿命亦超过之,为百二十岁。只为末世之弟子,减第三分(三分百二十岁),八十入灭。大集月藏经第十法灭尽品曰:“我今为众生弃舍身寿命,为增三精气,悲愍众生故,舍身寿第三分,令我法海满,洗浴诸天人。”大毗婆沙论百二十六曰:“有作是说:诸佛世尊舍第五分寿。有作是说:诸佛世尊舍第三分寿。若说诸佛舍第三寿者释迦牟尼佛寿量应住百二十岁,舍后四十但受八十。(中略)若说诸佛舍第五寿者,释迦牟尼世尊所感寿量应住百岁。舍后二十,但受八十。”
