性质:既具有黏性又具有弹性的物体。如果外力作用较慢即作用时间较长时,主要表现为塑性态;如果外力作用很快即作时时间较短时,主要表现为高弹态。从狭义的角度来说是指黏弹固体,即在弹性形变时伴随有显著黏性的固体。不遵循虎克定律。因而在形变过程中不仅有机械能的储存,而且有能量的损耗。高分子材料是典型的黏弹固体。从广义的角度来说也包括弹黏性流体。其黏度对剪应力和剪切速率有明显的依赖性,不遵循牛顿定律。
